- Fix the cause, not the symptom. Sealant smeared over cracked flashing is temporary. A permanent repair replaces what failed.
- Match materials. New shingles, flashing and membranes should be compatible with what is on the roof and as close a visual match as available products allow.
- Tie repairs in properly. Replacement shingles are woven into existing courses with correct overlaps and nailing, and flashing is lapped so water runs over every joint, never into it.
