Rock Roofing Calgary is a roofing contractor focused on one city and one kind of work: keeping water out of Calgary homes and buildings. We repair leaks and storm damage, inspect roofs after hail and before winter, and replace roofs that have reached the end of their life with systems built for local conditions.
Calgary is a hard place for a roof. It sits in the most active hail belt in Canada, summer storms can bruise a whole neighbourhood’s shingles in a few minutes, and chinook winds swing the temperature from deep cold to above freezing and back again all winter. Snow melts on a warm afternoon and refreezes at the eaves overnight. Shingles that might last much longer somewhere milder often need replacing after 15–20 years here.
That is why we care about the parts of a roof nobody sees once it is finished: the deck, the underlayment, the ice-and-water shield, the flashing and the ventilation. They decide whether a roof makes it through Calgary weather, and they are where cheap roofs cut corners.

Six habits that shape every repair and replacement, whether it is a single plumbing boot or a full tear-off.
A stain on a ceiling is a symptom. The water can enter at a cracked plumbing boot, a lifted flashing or an ice dam several metres away. We track the problem to where it actually starts, because a repair aimed at the symptom is money spent twice.
Not every roof needs replacing. If an asphalt roof still has years left of its 15–20 year life in Calgary and the damage is local, we say so and quote the repair. When a roof really is done, we explain why, and what happens if you wait.
Tear-off and disposal, underlayment, ice-and-water shield, drip edge, flashing, ridge venting, deck repairs and GST each get their own line. You should be able to put our quote next to anyone else’s and see exactly what is and is not included.
Hail in summer, early snow in fall, chinook swings in winter. A replacement needs 3–5 dry days and shingle sealant needs warmth to bond, so we schedule around the forecast rather than the calendar.
Debris goes into a bin, not onto your lawn or flower beds. Landscaping and siding are protected during tear-off, and the yard and driveway are swept with a rolling magnet for nails before we leave.

Roof systems
The right roof depends on the house, how long you plan to stay and how much hail risk you want to carry. These are the systems we work with, and we will tell you plainly which one we would put on your home and why.
The most common roof in Calgary and the most affordable way to roof a pitched home. Architectural shingles over a properly vented attic, with ice-and-water shield where Calgary needs it.
The top impact rating under UL 2218. In Canada’s most active hail belt, these are the shingles we recommend by default for a replacement.
Standing seam and steel shingle profiles for homeowners who want a roof that lasts decades and sheds snow instead of holding it.
EPDM, TPO and modified bitumen membranes on garages, additions, infills and commercial buildings, with drainage and seams detailed for snow load and freeze-thaw.
We start with the house, not the product. A 1970s bungalow with a low pitch and a tired attic needs a different conversation than a steep two-storey home in a newer suburb. We look at how long you plan to stay, how exposed the roof is to hail, whether the attic is venting properly and what the deck is likely to look like underneath. Then we explain the trade-offs in plain language: what an upgrade to Class 4 shingles buys you in a hail belt, when metal makes sense over the long run, and when a well-installed architectural shingle is the sensible choice.
Whatever you choose, the details that keep water out stay the same: full tear-off, ice-and-water shield at the eaves and valleys, proper flashing and balanced ventilation. Those are not upgrades we sell — they are how a roof should be built in Calgary.
